bhelDon’t get excited…no recipe to post. Just a picture of one of the things I miss most from India. This street corner snack is crunchy, salty, tamarind and green mango  sweet/sour, green chilli hot, mint, corriander….all mixed together for a taste explosion in your mouth. Served in a bowl made from pressed leaves.

    My mom used to mix with peanuts with rice crispies when she first went to the UK in the seventies

      Ah yes, it is so sad the lengths us non resident Indians go to in order to try and recreate the taste of bhel! Sadly nothing matches up to the original.

    I truly felt at home at Bombay only after i discovered the fresh water fish market and had a kitchen where I could cook up my favourite moong daal with fish head.

    I still miss, dalmut, the farsan from Calcutta. All my friends have standing orders to get it for me when they go there.
