Backyard visitors

June 13, 2011

The word is out…we are building an ark in our backyard. Two rabbits, two bush turkeys….they are all coming to visit and decide to stay. First the black and white rabbit started appearing. A couple of weeks later he has brought a friend. We know the black and white one belongs (in theory) to the neighbour. I don’t think he has been home for weeks…and certainly not now that his girl friend has moved in too.

The bush turkeys are still trying to find a way to get rid of the chickens who they think are occupying their personal property. Their nest (a waist high mound of twigs and leaves) grows larger by the day.

All animals are ignoring the dog who is feeling rather emasculated (I think). Not helped by the re-training boot camp she has been on this week since we got the dog trainer in to try to stop her escaping. We are trying to remind her that she is a dog and the bottom of the pecking order. I can almost hear the rabbits and bush turkeys cheering. Looks like we will be paying for another “counselling” session for the dog at this rate!

Our dog is at the bottom of the pecking order too. The cat laughs at him through the glass windows. I love your adopted ‘pets’, I wonder what will turn up next? Maybe the rabbits will “nest” as well and produce lots more?

I’ll send the poodles to sort out the bush turkeys if you like, mind you thpeyd probably try to catch the chickens too. And chase the rabbits, they’ve never caught anything but a game of chase wouldbe right up their street. Hpow long before we see the baby rabbits, they have a reputation….

Now that’s the kind of visitors that kids like to see…actually I’d like to see them too.
My sister lives in a street, very suburban, that has a lot of rabbits all loose. They bred like, er, rabbits and now happily roam around.
Your two look very healthy and happy. There must be a sign down at the local animal bar saying… “Number 23, that’s where it’s at!”
